About the Park

Thanks to its sizable acreage, Topanga State Park includes 36 miles of trails with scenic overlooks and views of the Pacific Ocean, where hikers can enjoy a peaceful escape from the bustling city of Los Angeles.

The Park’s landscape is composed of a wide range of plant communities, such as chaparral, oak and walnut woodlands, coastal sage scrub, grassland savannah, and riparian woodlands.

These rich habitats are in turn home to more than 80 mammal species, including mule deer, coyotes, mountain lions, bobcats, foxes, raccoons, rabbits and squirrels.

Hundreds of bird species also inhabit the Park, among them several types of hawks and owls, crows, scrub jays, woodpeckers and hummingbirds.

Finally, let’s not forget the more than 60 types of reptiles and amphibians, as well as many species of invertebrates.
