MONTHLY BIRD WALKS AT TOPANGA STATE PARK
THE FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH AT 8 A.M.
In anticipation for the “Bird Fest of the Santa Monica Mountains” on November 12th from 9am-3pm at King Gillette Ranch and the upcoming LA Audubon Annual Bird Count in Topanga State Park on December 18th, Topanga Canyon Docents want to share with you their love of birds!
Topanga Canyon Docents Wakako and Andrew Rollinger are avid birders, and will be representing Topanga Canyon Docents at the Bird Fest event with an informative booth. If you do happen to make it to the Bird Fest you will not only get to see live birds and talk to local experts like Wakako and Andrew, but you will also get to take guided bird walks!
Our resident birder, Topanga Canyon Docent Chris Tosdevin, has led the monthly Audubon bird hikes in Topanga for the past 15 years! He was born and raised in Yorkshire, England. He started out as a wildlife illustrator, and ultimately acquired a BA degree in interior architecture. Chris has lived and birded in the Santa Monica Mountains for 21 years. For the past seven years Chris has led a bird ID workshop for the fall Topanga Docent training and the bird hike for the field ecology weekend. He often co-leads the walk with Ken Wheeland, who like Chris, is a Topanga resident. Topanga Canyon Docent Read Howarth is a member of our board and enjoys taking photos in the park that he generously shares with us for our website and publicity.
