The Topanga Canyon Docents kicked off their annual Fall Training for new docents interested in becoming volunteers for Topanga State Park on Saturday September 12th. Stephen Bylin, the Topanga State Park Superintendent was present and explained the process for becoming a state park volunteer. Our Keynote Speaker, Christy Brigham, PhD, Chief of Planning, Science and Resource Management for the National Park Service, spoke about why the Santa Monica Mountains are so special and unique and the research behind preserving and protecting this area. Phil Rundel, PhD, Professor of Biology and Ecology spoke about Mediterranean Ecosystems in the afternoon.
