The Topanga Canyon Docents is an organization of volunteer docents at Topanga State Park. Each fall we offer prospective docents a training program. New docents learn about the natural and human history of the Santa Monica Mountains with a focus on plants, animals, geology, weather, and Native American cultures. Upon completion of the training, docents can share the Topanga_Canyon_Docents_Fall_Training_snakeknowledge they’ve gained by being a State Park volunteer with the Topanga Canyon Docents during our weekend public nature walk, weekday school walk, or while greeting visitors at the Visitor Center at Trippet Ranch. This training program is taught by highly respected educators and professional naturalists from local colleges, museums, and conservation-based institutions. If you’ve ever hiked the hills and canyons and have longed to share what you see, this training is perfect for you! The classroom and in-the-field training takes place every other weekend on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Trippet Ranch Visitor Center in Topanga State Park. In addition, five docent-led interpretive walks are on the alternate weekends, on Sunday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Included in enrollment is a one year TCD membership with benefits such as a parking pass for Topanga State Park, hikes, potluck gatherings, trips, seminars and education workshops. Come enjoy Topanga State Park, a unique wild area close to home.
