New and returning speakers will cover a variety of topics including California natural history,native uses of plants, Tongva and Chumash cultures, birds, insects, plants, astronomy, geology, weather and climate, interpreting the chaparral, and campfire stories and songs. The event will occur under the oaks at the group campsite in Malibu Creek State Park. Camping on Friday and Saturday nights will be possible. Speakers and topics are subject to to last minute change.
Our Field Ecology Weekend is a learning and sharing event intended to introduce the special natural wonders of the Santa Monica Mountains to local docent groups, their families and friends, but is available to adult nature lovers throughout the area as well. The event is held at the Malibu Creek State Park group campsite and consists of a series of two hour classes on Saturday and Sunday. There is a potluck dinner Saturday evening. Overnight camping is encouraged, but not required.
